Cytochrome c oxidase (COX) is a complex that spans 13-subunits in the inner mitochondrial membrane and is responsible for reducing the oxygen terminal to water in the electron transport chain. COX-4 is thought to regulate COX activity by the extramitochondrial ATP/ADP ratio.
